Tryouts

Please See our Facebook Page for Dates

You need to bring:

1. Photocopy of your insurance card

2. IDA Liability Form

3. IDA Rider Classification Form

4. Stapleton Farm Liability Form

5. Rider Info Form

Each student is placed into a level using the IDA Rider Classification Form. Students will receive a ride time for an individual, closed tryout at the farm. A lesson horse will be provided. Students will have 10 minutes to warm up the horse. During this time they will be assessed on how effectively they warm up the horse. They will then receive a 10 minute "mini-lesson" from the coach which is designed to assess how well the student takes in information and applies it to their riding. The student will then ride the appropriate test for their level - Intro B, Training 1, Training 3 or First 2. The last portion is a short interview.

Tryouts are located at Stapleton Farm at 3870 Bellevue Rd. Leslie, MI. The farm is about 25 minutes from campus. If you don't have a car to get to the farm, a ride will be found for you. Tryouts cost $35 check or cash. Riders will need appropriate footwear and a helmet. If these aren't available, contact the coach. Riders DO NOT need prior dressage experience, though the ability to independently walk and trot is required. Riders not able to do those things are still welcome in the lesson program.

Forms can be submitted to Ruth at ruth@stapletonfarm.com.

*A mandatory post tryout bonfire will be held at Stapleton Farm for all that participate in tryouts
